The Operations Manager at SolarTown serves as the central facilitator between sales, operations, finance, and SolarTown’s customers. Their primary role is to keep the business flowing in a fun, friendly, orderly and efficient manner. They are an organizer who has an interest in always finding the best way to get things done. They have good business instincts and have been exposed to best practices at large companies or perhaps even defined best practices in previous roles. They thrive in an environment where taking the initiative is rewarded and flexibility is the norm. They are interested in speaking and corresponding with customers to assist them with any problems they might have or to gather feedback on whether SolarTown met their expectations. They are comfortable managing external vendors and driving them to perform their best on behalf of clients. Oversee e-commerce order processing for Solartown.com and SolarTown’s Amazon.com storefront
Provide lightweight in-bound phone assistance to potential and existing customers
Work closely with Director of Business Development to drive sales growth
Explore and define new marketing strategies to increase reach of SolarTown.com
Expand social networking outreach via active promotion on Twitter, Facebook, etc.
Assist Accounting department with any and all order processing information needed
Manage sourcing relationship with ~5 Strategic Vendors and ~30 distributors
Assist with merchandising: Help select cool products to sell on SolarTown.com
Train and Supervise customer service representative(s) to assure a positive customer service experience
Recruit, train and supervise junior staff and interns as needed to support growth
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, related liberal art, engineering or equivalent work experience in retail sales or e-commerce
Strong interest in working for small entrepreneurial e-commerce company
Experience with or as an Inside Sales Representative or Manager or equivalent operational knowledge of standard business process methodologies for order processing including Request for Information (RFI), Request for Quote (RFQ), Purchase Order (PO), Sales Order (SO), etc.
Experience working on a small team and managing junior employees
Strong preference for candidates residing in HubZone

The role is flex-time / part-time with an expected weekly workload of 25-35 hours. It is desired that a minimum of 20 hours be spent in the Farragut North area downtown DC office suite. The ideal candidate would be available 3-5 days a week in the office for the core hours of 9:30amEST-3pmEST and would add 5-10 telecommuting hours in early mornings or evenings as appropriate. Compensation is negotiable and will be commensurate with experience and education.
For flex-time / part-time roles, SolarTown does not currently offer Medical, Dental, or Retirement Benefits. The position may evolve to full time with benefits if both the candidate and SolarTown agree.
